July is Disability Pride Month, a time to celebrate the diverse identities, rich culture, and invaluable contributions of individuals with disabilities! At Harrell Homes Assisted Living, we are proud to honor this important month and highlight the strength, resilience, and unique perspectives of the individuals with intellectual disabilities we serve.

Disability Pride Month originated to commemorate the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on July 26, 1990 – a landmark civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities. It's a time to challenge stereotypes, dismantle ableism, and affirm that disability is a natural and beautiful part of human diversity. The 2025 theme, "We Belong Here, and We're Here to Stay," truly resonates with our mission of fostering inclusion and empowerment.
At Harrell Homes Assisted Living, we believe in creating an environment where every individual with intellectual disabilities feels seen, valued, and empowered to live a full and meaningful life. This month, we'll be focusing on activities that promote self-advocacy, community engagement, and a deeper understanding of disability history and culture.

Join us in celebrating Disability Pride Month!
Here are a few ways we'll be celebrating and how you can too:
Highlighting Accomplishments: We'll be sharing stories of triumph, creativity, and daily achievements from the individuals in our care.
Educational Opportunities: We'll host discussions and share resources that shed light on disability history, rights, and the ongoing fight for true inclusion.
Community Connections: We'll encourage participation in local events that celebrate Disability Pride. Did you know that the Disability Pride Philadelphia Festival and Parade is happening in June 2025? It's a wonderful way to join the broader community in celebration!
Embracing Individuality: We'll continue to foster an environment where everyone feels comfortable and proud to be exactly who they are, celebrating their unique strengths and contributions.
Disability Pride is about accepting and honoring each person's uniqueness and seeing it as a natural and beautiful part of human diversity. We are committed to supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities in thriving and enjoying a life of dignity and respect.
