Goal: To use calming scents for relaxation and engage hand muscles through manipulation.
Materials: Store-bought or homemade playdough (a soft, non-gritty recipe is best), and calming essential oils or extracts (e.g., lavender, vanilla, or peppermint).
Activity Steps:
Mix 2-3 drops of a calming, pleasant scent into the playdough.
Encourage the individual to roll, flatten, pinch, and squeeze the dough.
Avoid strong, overpowering smells. Lavender is often a good choice for its relaxing properties.
Sensory Note: Ensure the playdough is at room temperature—neither too cold nor too warm—for a comfortable tactile experience.
