Raising Our Voices: Volunteering at the Arc of PA Health Action Summit

Updated: May 13

At Harrell Assisted Living Homes, we believe that advocacy is a powerful tool for independence. As we move through May, we are excited to highlight a premier opportunity for our community to engage in statewide change: The Arc of PA Health Action Summit.

Taking place from May 19–20 in Harrisburg, this summit is a vital platform for individuals with intellectual disabilities, autism, and their supporters to influence health policy and promote inclusive care standards.

Why This Opportunity Matters

For the adults we serve in the Philadelphia and Tri-State area, volunteering at an advocacy summit isn't just about helping out—it’s about Self-Advocacy.

  • Political Empowerment: Help navigate a statewide summit where decisions about disability rights and health access are made.

  • Building Connections: Meet other self-advocates and professionals from across Pennsylvania.

  • Skill Mastery: Practice social navigation and communication skills in a professional, high-impact environment.

How We Support Your Journey

Navigating a trip to Harrisburg requires the right "scaffolding". Through our Community Participation Support (CPS) services, Harrell Homes helps bridge the gap between home and these vital community events. We assist with:

  • Safe Transportation: Coordinating travel to ensure our clients can reach these important venues safely.

  • Sensory Preparation: Providing the tools and support needed to manage the bustling environment of a large summit.

  • Presuming Competence: We believe every individual in our care has the capacity to lead their own journey and make their voice heard.

Get Involved

Whether you are an individual looking to volunteer or a Direct Support Professional (DSP) interested in supporting a client during this event, your participation is a "win" for inclusion.
